In 1953, four years after the two prototype Lodekkas
were unveiled, Bristol construction six pre-production LDs to continue
the type of extensive testing and proving programme prior to full
production that simply would never be seen in the 21st century. They

These Lodekkas looked very much more like the
production examples, not least because they featured the bulbous front
radiator and engine cowl that were not present on the prototypes. All
were powered by Bristol AVW engines and led full lives with their
respective operating companies. One survives - MWR618
- currently modified as a display unit in Denmark having previously
been extremely active in Holland following its sale by West Yorkshire
Road Car Company in 1971.
