Crossing Continents by Top Deck

Many people here will be aware that Top Deck Travel wrote one of the most fascinating and incredible chapters in the Lodekka's history with their Overland tours to Europe, Africa and Asia.

Most however will not know many details about the company and its operations, but a book has now been published by someone who worked on the coalface. Trevor Carroll was taken on as a Top Deck driver in 1977 and conducted European tours for a year before being let loose on his first full overland trip. A three-week dash to Kathmandu had the tour stumbling into the start of the civil was in Afghanistan mixing with a government crackdown and soldiers and tanks on the roads.

Trevor describes his exciting and sometimes harrowing experiences on six overland trips as both driver and courier. Finally, he embarked on the massive 20-week Sydney to London tour in 1980 with its third and final leg aboard “Casper” (LD6G YHT953) and its 20 occupants across India, Pakistan, Iran, Syria, Jordan Israel, Turkey, Greece, Yugoslavia, and Italy. This tour passed through 21 countries and covered 34,000 kilometres conquering places where the buses’ designers never meant it to go. This is the author's final tour where he meets his future wife, Hilde.

I have been sent a shipment of "Crossing Continents with Top Deck" from Australia for UK distribution. Trevor has personally signed each copy. The cost is 19 plus 2.95 p&p - please drop me a line at or find me on Facebook and send me a private message.
